It’s been a busy month, as Stand Up, People gets closer and closer to completion. Exciting times!
We’ve spent much of December in Belgrade finalising the audio part of the project. We packed our cases with our collection super-rare vinyls of Roma pop music from the 1960s and 1970s to hand them over to expert Belgrade-based vinyl restorer, Milan Milovanovic. Milan is hard at the painstaking work of restoring a selection of these tracks without losing any of their edge.
But that’s not all we got up to in Belgrade. Not satisfied until we’d dug as deeply as possible into what survives of the Roma pop music of the 1960s and 1970s, we hit the archives at the National Library of Serbia to find a few last treasures. Here’s Nat at our workstation in the NLS in Belgrade thinking hard about what to include in the last available slots on the record:
We are absolutely delighted to be able to add these rare gems to our collection, and can’t wait to share them with you guys! Here’s a little example of the kinds of special rarities you can look forward to – check out this picture of the hard-living legend of Roma song Saban Bajramovic looking sharp in this rare 45rpm from the NLS:
If all goes well, we should still be on target to have a release ready by March at the latest. We’ll continue to post updates every month keeping you posted on how it’s all going, with exclusive audio clips to follow in January.
Thanks for your help guys! And we hope you have a great Christmas or New Year or whatever you’re celebrating.
